Western Gold Resources (WGR) is set to begin a 20,000-metre drilling program at the Gold Duke Project in the Northern Goldfields region of Western Australia.

The exploration team is finalising pad and track earthworks to allow drilling to begin on March 10.

Drilling will target mineralisation at the Eagle deposit and Joyners Find and Brilliant shear zone with work expected to take six weeks and first assays due in early May.

“The 6740 metre RC drilling program is a part of WGR’s aggressive 20,000 metre planned program in 2022 and builds on the considerable success during its 2021 exploration programs,” Managing Director Warren Throne commented.

“The drilling aims to further extend and close out mineralisation at the Eagle deposits as well as initial drilling programs at the historic high-grade Brilliant and Joyners Find mines.”

“WGR is particularly excited to drill its first holes along the Brilliant Shear Zone which will allow the team to further understand the controls on mineralisation and apply them to newly generated exploration targets to the north of Brilliant.”

Eagle

A total of 39 RC holes, for 2866 metres, will be drilled at the Eagle deposit to test the southern and northern extents of the eastern banded iron formation (BIF) unit and the southern extent of the western BIF unit.

Drilling will target the southerly-plunging high-grade gold shoots and highly weathered mafic and ultramafic rocks.

Western Gold will also follow up on previous drilling which intersected up to 23.36 grams per tonne (g/t) gold.

Joyners Find

Five RC holes, for 418 metres, will be drilled at Joyners Find to test the mineralisation hosted within the BIF unit and north-northwest trending quartz vein.

The holes will aim to test if the mineralisation is repeated within the quartz vein to the north of the historical Joyners Find mine.

Following a review of the geological database, Western Gold determined a small number of the holes had not been reported to the market.

Significant results include four metres at 18.45g/t gold from 24 metres including two metres at 34.78g/t gold, and three metres at 22.01g/t gold from 84 metres.

Brilliant

The upcoming drilling program at Brilliant is Western Gold’s first drilling program within the Brilliant Shear Zone.

A total of 47 RC holes, for 3456 metres, will be drilled with a focus on targeting the gold shoots below underground workings.

Drilling will be undertaken in two phases to allow for assay return and geological validation to improve the second phase.

Western Gold has ended the day in the grey with shares trading at 13 cents in a $10.57 million market cap.
