Defence is emerging as one of the fastest-growing opportunities for next-gen battery technology, particularly as militaries seek lighter, safer, and more energy-dense solutions for drones, which is why 1414 Degrees (ASX:14D) is developing silicon-anode battery technology through its Silicon platform.

Welcome to the latest HotCopper Capital Compass, where we’ve this week spoken to 1414 Degrees Strategic Adviser John Keith King and Technology & Operations Officer Dr Peter Yaron, who argue that AI infrastructure and defence are converging – and has flagged it’s critical.

“AI is no longer confined to hyperscale data centres. It’s moving into drones, autonomous systems, surveillance, comms – something I have experience with – and battlefield decision-making,” John told HotCopper. “That matters because 1414… is developing capabilities on both sides of that equation.”

That’s why he doesn’t view 1414 Degrees as a battery company at all: “I see it as an emerging silicon-based energy platform positioned at the intersection of AI, defence infrastructure, and energy security.”
