Contact Energy’s (CEN) new Chief Executive Officer, Mike Fuge, will commence the role in late February.

Last year, Dennis Barnes announced he will be resigning from the company. Dennis’ last day will be on February 28, 2020.

Mike is currently the Chief Executive of Refining New Zealand, where he has led a turnaround in safety performance and a fundamental revision of the corporate strategy in the context of the carbon-neutral ambitions of New Zealand.

He has only been with Refining New Zealand for a year and will be leaving in March.

Previously, Mike was Chief Executive of Pacific Hydro, a global renewable energy owner.

Dennis has been with Contact for the past eight years during which he spent nearly $2 billion on upgrading and developing its generation including a major geothermal plant.

Mike will commence the position on February 24, 2020.

“We are pleased to confirm Mike’s start date at Contact and are looking forward to having him join us,” Chairman Rob McDonald said.

“I thank all involved for their commitment to a smooth CEO transition,” he added.

On market close, Contact is up slightly, trading at $7.25 per share.
