Titanium Sands (TSL) has received all reverse circulation drill hole data from the Mannar Island Heavy Mineral Sand Project in Sri Lanka.

The Mannar Island Heavy Mineral Sands Project is located in the northwest of Sri Lanka. It is a 26-kilometre wide sand island that is joined to the Sri Lankan mainland by a three-kilometre railway.

Results show that of the 473 holes completed, 419 (89 per cent) returned intercepts between two and 11 per cent total heavy minerals (THM).

THM’s are minerals that are rich in titanium, zirconium and rare earths such as neodymium, praseodymium and scandium.

These minerals occur in very low concentrations in a variety or igneous and metamorphic rocks.

The reverse circulation (RC) aircore drilling results indicate that the current shallow exposed resource of 90.03 million tonnes at 6.60 per cent THM is underlain by large areas of deeper mineralisation.

The results also show that this deeper mineralisation is large across strike and typically extends down to at least five to 12 metres below the surface.

Mineralogical analysis of the RC aircore samples is now underway for preparation for a revised mineral resource estimate for the Mannar Island Project.

The RC drilling was designed to test for below depth extension of the surface exposed mineral resource to a depth of 12 metres.

Visual logging of the drilling indicated that almost all holes contained significant concentrations of heavy mineral all the way to the target depth of 12 metres.

A further drill program using Sonic Core Drilling will provide accurate samples below the eight to 11 metres achieved by the RC aircore drilling.

Data from this would provide Titanium Sands with the potential to further significantly enhance the resource.

“The complete RC aircore results again demonstrate the major depth potential to substantially increase the previously reported surface-exposed mineralisation on the Mannar Island Project,” Managing Director Dr James Searle commented.

An ungraded mineral resource estimate will be finalised once the mineralogical studies that are currently underway have been completed.

Titanium Sands has ended the day 5.08 per cent in the green with shares trading for 6.2 cents apiece in a $48.27 million market cap.
