Strategic Metals Company TNG has successfully filed an application to trademark the name of its first titanium dioxide pigment, TNG360.

TNG is an Australian resources company, with a focus on the development and evaluation of the Mount Peake Vanadium-Titanium-Iron Project.

This trademark aims to make the product and services easily identifiable to those not only in Australia but also globally.

TNG says this pigment will be used across the painting and coating market but plans to target larger plastics, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries.

The finished product will have similar properties to chloride produced pigment however, there will be some major physical and optical differences.

It will have more of a neutral undertone compared to those which are sulfate and chloride based, and there will also be a unique whiteness due to the low amount of iron used.

What differentiates this from other titanium dioxides is the low iron content, which will result in a neutral colour. This low iron count will also minimise environmental impact compared to other makes.

Previous manufacturers of titanium dioxide have used ilmenite and rutile, naturally occurring minerals, however these mines are now almost near depletion after more than 100 years of use.

TNG is using a new source titanomagentite, in relation to the mine depletion.

Managing Director Paul Burton states that this pigment will differentiate TNG from their competitors.

“By lodging this trademark application, TNG is not only moving to protect our IP… but also to ensure that our unique, high-value product will be recognised globally and distinguished from our competitors,” Managing Director Mr. Paul Burton said.
