Advanced gold explorer Alice Queen (AQX) has received results from the dipole-dipole induced polarisation (DDIP) survey at its Horn Island Project.
This work formed part of the first year geochemical-geophysical work program with joint venture partner St Barbara (SBM).
In June 2019, Alice Queen announced that its subsidiary, Kauraru Gold, had entered an earn-in and joint venture agreement with St Barbara.
This agreement gives St Barbara the right to earn an interest of 70 per cent in the Horn Island Project by funding $4 million within three years.
The Horn Island Project lies in the Kaurareg Archipelago of the Torres Strait, north of the Cape York Peninsula in Far North Queensland.
The project is made up of an existing mineral field and an abandoned gold mine that only has to be mined to a shallow depth.
Results from the DDIP survey, and soil and rock-chip geochemical surveys, have highlighted several geophysical-geochemical targets with gold and pathfinder: copper, lead, zinc, silver, antimony, and arsenic, mineralisation.
“It’s encouraging to see these significant IP anomalies lining up with our previously announced surface geochemistry,” Alice Queen Managing Director Andrew Buxton commented.
“With our joint venture well ahead of schedule in terms of planned spending, the next phase of our Horn Island partnership looks very exciting,” he said.
Due to the success of this survey, a step-out DDIP survey over other gold targets at Horn Island may be undertaken.
What is DDIP?
When electromagnetic surveying is done there are different ways in which the electrodes are arranged to perform geophysical measurements.
A dipole is a pair of oppositely charged electrodes that are so close together that the electric field generated forms a single field rather than two different fields that should be generated since there are two dipoles. So a dipole-dipole is essentially another pairing of electrodes.
Dipole-dipole is commonly used in tandem with induced polarisation for mineral exploration.
This makes is easier to visualise the data in the from of a 2D image and even though the image isn’t perfect, it’s enough to enable the geology to be interpreted and analysed.
Alice Queen shares are currently steady and trading for 2.1 cents each at 11:10 am AEST.
