Gateway Mining (GML) has extended the Achilles prospect into a 2.5-kilometre-long gold corridor at its Gidgee Gold Project in Western Australia.
This presents a significant new gold exploration opportunity within the 1000-square kilometre project.
The company recently completed an aircore drilling program which defined several large-scale gold anomalies extending over a 1.4-kilometre strike length. The Achilles zone remains open for a further 2.5 kilometres to the south of this drilling.
The anomalous zone includes higher grade results including four metres at 1.6g/t gold from 28 metres, four metres at 1.4g/t gold from eight metres and five metres at 0.7g/t gold from 52 metres.
Drilling included 305 holes, for 15,016 metres, and aimed to test the highly prospective thrust fault along the margin of the Montague Granodiorite as well as the interpreted shear zones within the western mafic volcanic sequence that hosts mineralisation.
The mineralised trend can now be traced back into the main Achilles Shear structure which highlights a significant target for deeper reverse circulation (RC) drilling.
Additional results include four metres at 1.8g/t gold from 36 metres and three metres at 5.6g/t gold from 16 metres including one metre at 16.2g/t gold.
“Seeing assay results as high 16g/t for this relatively early stage of air-core drilling is always exciting, but of greater importance is the continuity and strength of the oxide and primary gold anomalism and the logical correlation of the geology and structures across the 1.4km strike extent,” Managing Director Peter Langworthy said.
“It’s still relatively early days for the Achilles Gold Corridor, but we see a big opportunity emerging there that could well end up ranking a close second in priority behind the North West Margin, where we are working to in-fill the 1.5km area between our two cornerstone deposits,” Peter added.
Gateway Mining may also conduct diamond drilling to locate and orientate the controlling structures. The RC and diamond drilling programs are expected to begin next year.
Company shares are up 11.8 per cent and trading for 1.9 cents at 10:31 am AEDT.
