Diamond drilling at Legend Mining’s (LEG) Mawson prospect has bolstered the suggestion that a large mineralised system is driving the prospect.

Mawson is located within the Rockford project in the highly prospective Fraser Range of Western Australia.

The drilling program kicked off early last month with exploration primarily focused on magmatic nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation and volcanogenic massive sulphides.

Seven drillholes have been completed with drilling ongoing.

At Target area one, four drillholes have been completed, targeting the interpreted bifurcated chonolith that drives the nickel-copper-cobalt mineralisation directly south and southeast of the Mawson discovery zone.

Two drillholes intersected the targeted chonolith host of websterite and olivine gabbronorite.

The chonolith was weakly mineralised in places, with structural interpretation suggesting the fault has offset the lower intrusive suite of the chonolith.

Legend is encouraged by this intersection of fertile host lithologies, which is visually interpreted as the host of the Mawson discovery zone.

Further, down-hole transient electromagnetic (DHTEM) surveying was done at these two holes, identifying end of hole conductors which are said to be close to the D5 stratigraphic conductor.

Follow-up drilling will test these conductors and investigate the interpreted offset position of the chonolith.

Also interestingly, carbonate-intrusive contact was identified for the first time at the prospect which has also been seen at the Nova-Bollinger deposit.

Over at Target Two, three drillholes have targeted the northeast, untested portion of the Eastern Aircore Geochemical Anomaly.

Two drillholes intersected a large, thickened group of highly prospective
gabbronorite, olivine gabbronorite and websterite lenses.

Legend says these lithologies appear visually identical to those of the chonolith at the Mawson discovery zone.

Ongoing drilling across the three target areas will focus on defining intrusive bodies identified and target structural trap sites for massive nickel-copper sulphide mineralisation accumulation.

The findings so far at both Target one and two is said to add weight to existing datasets, supporting the suggestion that a large mineralised system is driving Mawson.

Selected samples have been sent for testing and Legend aims to report the results when received.

Moving forward, plans are in place for DHTEM to be undertaken on all completed diamond drillholes.

Additionally, the integration of diamond drilling, reverse circulation, aircore geochemical and geophysical datasets is planned to evolve a 3D emplacement model of Mawson, with new constrained gravity and magnetic inversions ongoing.

Shares are up 2 per cent, trading at 2.8 cents each at 10:47 am AEST.
