EcoGraf (EGR) is progressing bi-product development activities which support its zero waste operating strategy for its EcoGraf battery anode material (BAM) facility in Western Australia.

The development programs, which have begun in Europe, Asia and the US, are being conducted for the bi-product fines generated from the manufacture of EcoGraf’s main and secondary products.

The main product, which is the HFfree high-density BAM (hdBAM), is being produced for electric vehicles (EV) and the secondary product, which is the ultra-fine superBAM product, will be used for hybrid cars, power tools and 3C applications for the EV industry.

EcoGraf is developing the greenRECARB, ecoCEM, and hpFines bi-products for applications in the steel, and battery and chemical manufacturing industries.

greenRECARB is a low emission recarburiser additive for the steel manufacturing industry. The company is undertaking a major testing program to develop a premium additive for the electric arc furnace (EAF) and induction furnace steel manufacturing industry.

This will support steelmakers who are seeking sustainably produced additive materials to replace the use of energy intensive, fossil fuel-based petroleum coke products.

ecoCEM is a conductivity enhancement material (CEM) to improve the performance of cathodes and alkaline batteries. Ultra-fine sizes of the premium product used in battery coatings are priced at up to US$30,000 (A$40,560) per tonne and the products represent a complementary extension to the company’s BAM production capabilities.

Lastly, the hpFines bi-product is an additive for use in specialised industrial applications that benefit from its lubrication, thermal efficiency and fire-resistant properties.

Two leading European groups successfully qualified two initial product samples, and EcoGraf is now investigating additional purified fines product market opportunities.

Essentially, the successful development of these bi-products maximises product efficiency and reduces production waste while providing customers with high-quality, sustainably-produced products.

Company shares were up 9.24 per cent to trade at 65 cents at 11:42 am AEDT.
