Sky Network Television has announced the launch of a new sporting news channel to broadcast the latest sports news from New Zealand and around the world.

From August 1, sky will have 12 HD sports channels with dedicated homes for rugby, cricket, golf and football. Sports like rugby league, netball and motorsport will be strongly featured on the channel as well.

The new sports channel will show live bulletins from New Zealand and around the world, including Fox Sports News Australia and Sky Sports News UK. As well as breaking news and live press conferences.

CEO Martin Stewart said he is pleased with what the new sports channel will offer.

“The Sky Sport News channel is an exciting new initiative,” Sky Network Televsion CEO Martin Stewart said.

“We will have daily news from New Zealand and around the world, expert opinion and analysis, exclusive interviews, and a raft of features to keep every keen sports fan engaged,”

The sports channel will be launching new shows including a new morning news service live from Auckland.

There will be additional pop-up channels for major events such as Australian Tennis Open and next year’s Tokyo Olympics Games.

“By enhancing the channel line-up we’re giving them even more sport, better content discovery, and in glorious HD as well,” Martin said.

Sky Network was the first company to bring sports streaming to New Zealand.

The current sport streaming app called Fan Pass, is getting replaced with a new Sky Sports App. The new app will be at a cheaper price and will be available from August 14.

“Sports fans are increasingly mobile, and often time-poor,” Martin continued.

“Young fans in particular are looking for a range of experiences. Sky Sport Now is one way we can make sport more accessible, exciting and appealing,”

The news channel will feature broadcasters Kate King and Goran Paladin as presenters.
