Neometals (NMT) has commissioned a pilot plant and started the production of a titanium-rich gravity concentrate sample for offtake evaluation trials.

NMT’s wholly-owned Barrambie titanium and vanadium project is based in Western Australia where the majority of the samples are evaluated by potential Chinese offtake counterparties.

The company said that Barrambie is the most advanced and underdeveloped hard-rock titanium mineral resource in Australia.

According to NMT’s announcement, roughy 150 tonnes of mixed gravity concentrates will be made and transported to China in the first quarter of 2022.

The majority of the concentrates will be shipped to titanium slag producer Jiuxing for commercial trials.

Based in China, Jiuxing produces chloride-grade titanium slag and reportedly produces approximately 12 per cent of China’s total chloride slag supply.

NMT has a memorandum of understanding with Jiuxing Titanium Materials where it outlines a technical and commercial pathway to a formal, binding take-or-pay off-take agreement with NMT.

Jiuxing’s smelting trials have been scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2022 for the purpose of advancing negotiations for formal offtake agreements which are prerequisites for future investments.

The pre-feasibility studies have been scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2022.

Neometals shares were trading up 5.94 per cent at $1.07 a share at 12:56 pm AEDT.
