Austal has successfully delivered a 49 metre high- speed passenger ferry to the French Polynesia by Austral’s Philippines shipyard.
In late December 2017, Austal was awarded a $30 million contract to build a passenger catamaran ferry by SNC Aremiti.
SNC Aremiti is the French Polynesia’s leading commercial ferry operator and are part of the Groupe Degage.
The “Aremiti 6” is designed to sit 620 passengers and garage space for up to 30 motorbikes, small vehicles and cargo.
It will have a speed of 36 knots and it will be fitted with Austal’s Ride Control System to improve seakeeping and provide passenger comfort on the Papeete – Moorea route.
This is the fifth vessel Austal has delivered to French Polynesia since 2002.
Austal is an Australian shipbuilder and global defence prime contractor which designs constructs and sustains some of the world’s most advanced commercial and defence vessels.
The company has been running for over 28 years and has designed and constructed over 300 commercial and defence vessels.
French Polynesia is known for its beautiful islands such as Tahiti, Bora Bora and Mo’orea. The French Polynesia is located in the South Pacific comprising more than 100 islands.
Austal CEO David Singleton is pleased with the ship.
“Austal Philippines has done an excellent job on this project, producing a high quality vessel to a longstanding client that reflects the professional staff and shipbuilding skills we have at our Cebu shipyard,” he said.
The company has recently expanded the Philippines shipyard and has more than 900 employees working at the shipyard.
“Austal Philippines is now delivering some of the world’s most technologically advanced and sophisticated vessels,” David added.
