NeuRizer (NRZ), formerly Leigh Creek Energy, has appointed Stamicarbon as a urea licensor for its NeuRizer urea project (NRUP) in South Australia.

The company described NRUP as a nationally significant, carbon neutral project set to deliver low-cost, high-quality nitrogen-based fertiliser to supply local and export agriculture markets.

NeuRizer said the project would initially produce one million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) of urea fertiliser and was the only fully integrated urea production facility in Australia with all inputs for low carbon urea production on-site.

Stamicarbon was recommended by South Korean conglomerate DL E&C, NeuRizer’s NRUP engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPCC) and front-end engineering and design (FEED) carbon capture and storage (CCS) engineering provider.

NeuRizer said Stamicarbon, an innovation and licence company of the Maire Tecnimont Group, was a global market leader in the design and development of fertiliser plant technologies. Urea, green ammonia and nitric acid were at the core of its business.

Stamicarbon has been engaged to deliver the process design package (PDP) for the urea component of NRUP.

“With more than 250 licensed plants and over 90 debottlenecking projects, there is no other company with more experience in the fertiliser industry better suited to being a partner for our project,” NeuRizer Managing Director Phil Staveley said.

“We look forward to working closely with them towards first production and making NRZ a flagship urea producer for the local and export agriculture markets.”

The appointment of Stamicarbon follows the recent appointment of Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR) as ammonia licensor.

NeuRizer said Stamicarbon becoming involved with the project was a significant milestone, being the last step in closing the technology gap by securing all the licensors and proprietary equipment for the completion of the FEED process.

NRZ shares were up 9.52 per cent to 23 cents at 2:30 pm AEST.
