  • Assay results from soil and rock chip sampling at Jadar Lithium’s Rekovac project has returned elevated levels of lithium and boron
  • Soil values show up to 342ppm boron and 149ppm lithium
  • The Vranje South Basin is now being evaluated with the objective of defining drilling locations

Jadar Lithium has provided an update on soil and rock chip sampling, and the interpretation of regional gravity and magnetic data at its Rekovac project in Serbia.

The objective of the field mapping and soil sampling programs was to outline areas with anomalous values of lithium and boron. It was also to determine the most prospective area for detailed follow-up rock chip sampling.

Simultaneous with the field activities, Jadar acquired regional gravity and magnetic survey data from a local contractor who re-interpreted the data to outline the basin geometry and defence the presence of calc-alkaline volcanism.

Covering a total area of 75.4 square kilometres the Rekovac project consists of Miocene sediments which have the potential to contain lithium-borate mineralisation.

Two phases of soil sampling have defined a target area in the centre of the permit which shows a strong correlation between lithium and borate soil anomalies.

Jadar undertook two sampling programs at Rekovac and collected a total of 291 samples. The assays returned elevated levels of up to 342ppm boron and 149ppm lithium.

Due to the encouraging nature of these results, Jadar conducted follow up detailed rock chip sampling with a focus on the previously identified anomalies.

This rock chip sampling focused on exposed lower and middle Miocene sedimentary formations in an attempt to identify the presence of the elevated levels of lithium and boron.

During this program, the presence of scattered spherical nodules was also identified. This indicated the presence of dolomite and analcime both of which are considered to be indicators of a saline-alkaline environment.

“We are very encouraged by the prospectively of Jadar Lithium’s portfolio of projects in Serbia. The greenfield exploration work which we undertook is paying off, with very encouraging data on the Rekovac project as well,” Jadar Non-Executive Chairman Luke Martino said.

“In conjunction with the exciting results which have been generated on the Vranje-South project, the Rekovac project presents a second area which we will be progressing to the drilling stage in the near term.”

Jadar is now continuing to evaluate the Vranje South Basin with the objective of defining drilling locations to test the discovered anomalies.
