Lord Resources (LRD) has commenced drilling at Jarama gold project in the Murchison region of Western Australia.

The 3,500 metre aircore drilling program is expected to take up to three weeks to complete, with the drill rig capable of undertaking both aircore and reverse circulation drilling.

The drilling program is targeting greenstone-hosted deposits under transported cover, and is the part of the first sub-surface exploration to be conducted at Jarama.

Jarama sits on a wedge of untested greenstone belt that is predominately covered with depositional colluvium. The company said this hides the underlying geology and any potential mineralisation of the area. As such, the aircore drilling will be the first test of this.

Jarama is surrounded by several significant gold projects such as Yidby, Mount Gibson and Golden Dragon.

On the market, Lord were up 8.82 per cent and trading at 37 cents per share at 1:15 pm AEST.
