Lithium and battery metals explorer, Charger Metals (CHR) has begun the first round of drilling at its Coates project in Western Australia.

The project is situated east-north-east of Perth and contains a mafic intrusive complex within the Jimperding Metamorphic Belt, which also hosts Chalice Mining’s (ASX:CHN) Julimar nickel-copper-platinum group element (PGE) project.

With drilling approvals from the Department of Mining, Industry Regulation and Safety in hand, CHR has planned five diamond drill holes to test the upper levels of the T1 geophysical target.

This target was one of 20 uncovered by a geophysical survey undertaken in 2021.

A follow-up, fixed loop time domain electromagnetic survey identified two conductors that indicate massive sulphide mineralisation.

Charger’s Managing Director David Crook said the interpretation of this data, together with existing geochemical data has made an “outstanding drill target”.

Down hole electromagnetic surveying is also planned to assess the potential for additional nearby conductive rock units.

Company shares were in the grey and trading at 48 cents at 12:45 pm AEST.
