Latin Resources (LRS) has unveiled “positive” DMS testwork outcomes on ore sourced from its Colina Deposit, showcasing the capability to generate a high-grade, low-impurity spodumene concentrate.

The DMS testwork achieved a 93.1 per cent recovery, producing a spodumene concentrate with a lithium oxide grade of 5.5 per cent.

The company highlighted that these results would contribute to the forthcoming preliminary economic assessment (PEA) and definitive feasibility study (DFS).

LRS Vice President of Operations Tony Greenaway said the latest metallurgical test results “very clearly” demonstrated the amenability of its Colina spodumene pegmatite to simple DMS processing and validated assumptions from the initial benchtop scale HLS test work.

“DMS processing is commonly used in the spodumene lithium sector and has been shown to have significant cost-saving implications for both capital and operating costs,” he said.

“The company is currently in the final stages of completing a PEA based on the Colina lithium deposit, which will include estimates of both capital and operating costs for the project.”

LRS announced plans to engage in a more extensive DMS and additional test work programs in the fourth quarter of this year, utilising more than 2000 kilograms of spodumene pegmatite samples from Colina.

The aim is to build upon the company’s initial promising results and refine the processing flowsheet for the Colina DFS. This may involve supplementary downstream processing and exploratory efforts to enhance lithium recovery.

LRS shares last traded at 36 cents.
