WestStar Industrials has announced its contractor business, SIMPEC, has been awarded a $5 million contract at Fortescue Metals’ Eliwana Mine and Rail Project.

SIMPEC will construct a 25 Mega Watt Diesel Power Generation facility at the project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

The contract was awarded by Energy Power Systems. Works will commence this month and are expected to finish in July 2020.

Fortescues’s US$ 1.2 billion Eliwana Mine and Rail Project is a new mine development which includes 143 kilometres of rail and a new ore processing facility with a capacity of 30 million tonnes per annum.

SIMPEC’s contract includes the design, construction, testing and commissioning of activities for the power station facilities.

This announcement further strengthens the company’s relationship with Fortescue. SIMPEC was awarded a $10 million contract on May 1 to build an 800-room camp at the Eliwana Project.

SIMPEC Managing Director Mark Dimasi is pleased to have secured another contract for this project.

“To be part of Fortescue’s Eliwana Mine and Rail Project is extremely rewarding and is another commendable accomplishment for the team,” Mark said.

“A special thank you to EPSA for supporting us during this tender phase. Well done team SIMPEC,” Mark added.

This contract is SIMPEC’s first full vertical installation package and brings the company’s contract awards for the first quarter of the 2020 financial year to approximately $15 million.
