- An aggressive drilling program will start today at First Au’s Gimlet Gold project in Western Australia
- The aim of the drill is to grow the current 69,000 ounce JORC resource
- Once all diamond and reverse circulation drilling is completed, a sub-audio magnetics survey at the Horan’s Dam prospect will begin
- Assays are expected next month
First Au has advised that an aggressive drilling program will start today at its Gimlet Gold project in Western Australia.
The Gimlet Gold project is located 15 kilometres northwest of Kalgoorlie and 500 metres along strike from the operating Teal Gold Mine.
Gimlet comprises of a 9.6 square kilometre granted exploration licence that is prospective for gold.
Planned air-core and reverse circulation drilling (RC) is targeted to investigate steeply dipping high-grade lodes beneath an extensive gold blanket zone and along strike from the Teal Mine.
This new aggressive drilling program is aimed at growing the 69,000 ounce JORC resource which is open along strike and at depth.
The initial part of the program involved diamond drilling to test the down-dip extension of mineralisation below the current resource.
The two diamond holes, for 550 metres, was followed by an 1800 metre RC program. This program was run in March 2019 and showed the mineralisation improves at depth.
One diamond hole returned a high-grade result of 32 metres at 4.9 grams per tonne of gold from 93 metres. RC drilling intersected a high of 15 metres at 6.6 grams per tonne of gold from 157 metres.
This current program will test below 150 metres and along a strike of 450 metres.
In addition to testing under the resource, RC drilling will also occur along strike to the north of Gimlet where First Au successfully identified gold mineralisation from recent air-core drilling.
The features observed in several of the air-core drill holes are similar to those observed from the discovery of Gimlet.
Simultaneously, a high-definition sub-audio magnetics (SAM) survey will be completed at the Horan’s Dam prospect, which lies to the west of Gimlet.
Data obtained from this survey will provide structural targets for a planned RC program at Horan’s Dam once drilling at Gimlet has been completed.
Historic exploration has located a 3.6 kilometre long and 400 metre wide gold anomaly. It is interpreted that this gold is sourced from nearby sulphide-quartz lodes like the one seen at Gimlet.
Assays from Gimlet are expected next month and will be made public once received.
