Alcidion (ALC) has signed a five-year agreement with East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust in the UK to implement the company’s Miya Precision, an upgrade to the existing ExtraMed patient flow solution.

The contract represents the first customer upgrade from ExtraMed’s flow solution, which has been used at East Lancashire for almost a decade, to Miya Flow following Alcidion’s acquisition of ExtraMed in April 2021.

Alcidion said the new system will help busy wards and clinical teams across the large integrated healthcare organisation’s four hospitals to ensure streamlined admission, timely care and effective discharge management of 700,000 patients.

This will also ensure easier visibility of what ward staff, medical staff and other important hospital staff need to do to ensure patients are treated and discharged without delays.

“Patient flow has become an immediate focus for digital technology in healthcare as hospitals aim to improve efficiency at a time of huge demand, and as integrated care systems look to flow systems to help support command and control across their footprint,” said company Group Managing Director Kate Quirke.

The existing ExtraMed system had delivered significant benefits in moving flow related information from paper forms to more accessible digital information and has supported digital handover and specialist term referrals.

Combined with the existing system, East Lancashire will have the potential to use the new system to support virtual wards in the community.

ALC shares were 20 cents in early trade this morning.
