Amazon has revealed the latest version of its home security enabling product and named Scout Security (SCT) as one of its launch partners.

The feature, Alexa Guard, allows Alexa-enabled devices to function as a home security system. and is available through Scout’s self-installed, wireless home security system Scout Alarm.

The latest version, called Alexa Guard Plus, will be a premium service which expands upon the core Guard feature set.

New features will include the detection of intruders from the sound of footsteps and doors closing, while in away mode, which will then trigger smart alerts.

Alexa Guard Plus will also have deterrent capabilities in away mode including the ability to play sounds, such as that of a dog barking.

When home, customers will also be able to call for emergency response by using the phrase “Alexa, call for help.”

Scout CEO Dan Roberts said the new set of features represents the next step in smart home security.

“Amazon’s Alexa platform continues to be one of the most popular integrations we offer for the Scout system and, over the years, the use cases for voice assistants have expanded dramatically.”

“We’re excited to be able to leverage some of the advancements in home audio detection to offer an additional service that, we believe, will add another layer of security to our customers’ homes,” he said.

“For several years, our team has investigated the ways we might mimic home occupancy as a deterrent to intruders, and the Guard Plus feature set is, in our opinion, a major step in the right direction for smart home security,” he added.

The integration will be launched in 2021 and be available through several security partners including Abode, Resideo, A3 Smart Home and Wyze, in addition to Scout Alarm.

Amazon and Scout’s revenue-sharing split is yet to be determined.
