AML3D (ASX:AL3) has announced a $280,000 contract to upgrade an existing robotic welding system with the company’s ‘ARCEMY’ metal 3D printing system.

That upgraded ARCEMY-enabled robot will then be used by third party entity Century Engineering, an Australian defence and industry supplier (as described by AML3D.)

Expected to take as little as three months, the upgrade will see the company offering Century a year of software support as it goes forward using ARCEMY for its own clients’ desires.

The conversion will take a complete overhaul of legacy assets to install the ability to utilise AML3D’s wire-arc additive manufacturing capability, including both hardware and software.

“Our ability to retrofit an older AML3D, robotic welding system and bring it up to the specifications of a modern ARCEMY® Wire-Arc Additive metal 3D printing system is evidence of delivery of our broader strategic objectives,” CEO Sean Ebert said.

Naturally, getting money out of old assets is widely considered to be good strategy.

“It is pleasing to announce a new Australian ARCEMY order while we are continuing to see huge demand for our systems and manufacturing capabilities in the USA, especially within the US Navy submarine industrial base and prime US Navy suppliers.”

AL3 last traded at 17cps.
