Anson Resources (ASN) has appointed Novonix Battery Technology Solutions (NVX) to test the performance of lithium samples, extracted from the Paradox Brine Project, in lithium-ion battery cells.

Using Novonix’s manufacturing line, several kilograms of Anson’s lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate samples will be used together with commercial battery cathode precursor materials to form NMC622 cathode powders. These will then be processed into lithium-ion batteries for testing.

Canadian-based Novonix provides high precision testing equipment to battery makers, including notables like Panasonic, Samsung, Bosch, Honda and Dyson.

Novonix anticipates this testing to take four to five months, including assembly and testing, beginning early February.

Then what?

The data from the test work will be used to draw conclusions about Anson’s lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide performance in commercial battery cells. The company then intends to use the results to further discussions with prospective offtake partners.

By conducting its own battery cell performance test work, rather than providing a sample to one potential producer to conduct the test, Anson believes it will broaden its potential customer base and increase offtake opportunities.

Anson CEO Bruce Richardson, says, “The commencement of the Novonix battery performance testing program is the next significant step forward for Anson in the development of the lithium production from the Paradox brines.”

“We are confident our lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate samples will perform strongly given the results of previous purity test work confirmed that the samples we produced exceeded customer standards.”

Anson’s flagship site, the Paradox Basin Brine Project, is located in Utah, U.S. The company also has interests in the Yellow Cat Vanadium-Uranium Project, Ajana Graphite Project, and the Hooley Well Nickel-Cobalt Project northeast of Perth.

ASN is up 11.43 per cent at 3.9 cents at 12:01 pm AEDT.
