Anson Resources (ASN) has collected the first brine sample from drilling at the Long Canyon Unit 2 well within its Paradox lithium project in Utah.

The sample comes from an expansion program targeting a large Mississippian supersaturated brine aquifer, which hosts a lithium-rich zone.

Anson drilled 45 metres into the targeted porous dolomite and limestone units, reaching the required depth to collect the first brine sample.

The company said the geological characteristics of the hole allowed the brine to flow naturally to the surface without the need for pumping.

The company plans to collect a bulk sample to be used for future metallurgical test work, a small-scale pilot plant, and to determine brine flow rates.

The brine samples collected will be assayed for lithium, bromine, and other minerals. The company plans to use the results to help inform an upcoming resource upgrade for the project.

Once drilling is complete, Anson will conduct downhole geophysics to determine rock unit parameters.

Shares in Anson Resources were down 2.31 per cent to 13 cents each at 10:15 am AEST.
