Argosy Minerals (AGY) has reported that the five lithium carbonate test samples sent to Mitsubishi Corporation in Japan are up to 99.88 per cent lithium carbonate.

Mitsubishi sent the samples to a Japanese end-user customer, who tested the product. The results came back as the highest purity recorded to date for Argosy.

The company said these results were achieved by using its environmentally clean chemical process technology, which was developed for its Rincon Lithium Project in Argentina.

“This is another significant milestone for the company and our first-class Puna operations team utilising our exclusive clean and environmentally conscious chemical process technology, as we continue toward the full development of our Rincon Lithium Project,” Argosy Managing Director Jerko Zuvela said.

The products were tested as part of a product supplier qualification process with end-user customers and battery cathode manufactures.

“This marks a strong intent that the company’s lithium carbonate product quality and specification should enable progress through the rigorous supplier qualification process of several battery cathode manufacturers, and further advances the company’s options for potential Stage 2 off-take arrangements,” the company explained.

Argosy has also provided the product to other Japanese and Korean potential off-take or strategic investor groups for their own testing.

This testing process is separate from the recent shipping of five tonnes of high-quality lithium carbonate to Mitsubishi last month.

Argosy shares are trading 4.48 per cent higher this morning, currently worth seven cents each.
