Athena Resources (AHN) has reported “encouraging” copper and PGE results from three holes within the Moonborough Intrusion at its Byro base metals project in Western Australia’s Murchison region.

The three drill holes aimed to follow up on historical drilling and were targeting a weak gravity anomaly coincident with a moderate magnetic signature.

The study work included lithological logging, cross-sectional interpretation, thin section petrology and XRD scanning and assay results.

Assay results included 6m at 0.32 per cent copper from 19m, including one metre at 0.57 per cent copper, and one metre at 0.39 per cent copper from 58m.

A northern gabbro within the intrusion was found to be more extensive than originally thought with the possibility of extending up to 5km. It thickens, plunges, and is open to the north-west.

Xray diffraction analysis, (XRD), was completed on a small sample of drill cuttings, which imply the gabbro assemblage contains two phases.

This includes a non-mineralised calcic amphibole phase and a mineralised pyroxene gabbro phase.

Thin section petrology has confirmed that the disseminated ores within the mineralised pyroxene lens comprise of bornite (copper), chalcopyrite (copper) and ilmenite (titanium).

Athena shares were trading flat at one cent at 1:25pm AEDT.
