Auroch Minerals (AOU) has discovered a significant bedrock conductor at the Nepean Nickel Project in Western Australia.

Auroch identified the conductor through a high-powered moving loop electromagnetic (MLEM) survey which commenced last week.

The strong conductor is in the 4000s to 8000s range, which is typical of conductive bodies like semi-massive and massive sulphide mineralisation.

A further testament to the potential for this style of mineralisation is the conductor lies 50 metres away from a historical drill hole that intercepted disseminated nickel sulphides in an ultramafic unit.

The discovery was modelled 250 metres below surface and is located around one kilometre south of the historical Nepean nickel mine.

“The effectiveness of the ground MLEM survey in detecting such a quality high-potential drill target so early in the survey has exceeded all expectations,” Managing Director Aidan Platel said.

“Given the lack of historical drilling along the 10 kilometres of potential strike from the high-grade Nepean nickel mine, we have always believed that the systematic application of modern geophysical and exploration techniques would have great potential to lead to significant new nickel sulphide discoveries,” he added.

Auroch Minerals plans to test the high potential target with diamond drilling. A 350-metre to 400-metre hole will be drilled to intercept the modelled conductive plate at a downhole depth of roughly 290 metres to 300 metres.

A diamond rig has already arrived onsite to commence drilling immediately and the MLEM survey is ongoing.

Company shares are up 6.98 per cent, trading at 23 cents at 11:10 am AEST.
