Austin Metals (AYT) has begun aircore drilling at the Shadow target areas within the Austin gold project in WA’s Murchison region.

Between 1500 and 2000 metres of drilling will be undertaken to follow on from the recently completed gravity surveys.

A review of the gravity data and geochemistry has highlighted five high priority undrilled targets that occur on prominent gravity break structures which may be indicative of alteration and veining associated with gold mineralisation.

The gravity survey began in January to identify gold-bearing structures for drill testing.

The majority of Shadow is covered by soil of varying depth which means advanced geochemical and geophysical techniques will become more important in a breakthrough discovery.

Due to highly encouraging preliminary results, Austin decided to more than double the size of the survey to include a survey block that extends over a 6.5 kilometre by five kilometre area.

This enabled the company to further understand the extent of key mafic rocks across the project.

The aircore drilling is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Shares in Austin were up 8.33 per cent, trading at 2.6 cents at 1:56 pm AEDT.
