Australia Post has begun online sales of Beam Communications’ (BCC) ZOLEO device.

Additionally, Australia Post will be stocking the product in its stores before the end of the month.

ZOLEO will initially be available at 125 regional and rural outlets across the country such as Kalgoorlie in Western Australia and Mount Isa in Queensland.

“There are more than seven million Australians who live in rural and regional areas and they are key target users of ZOLEO as around 80 per cent of Australia’s landmass has no mobile coverage,” CEO Michael Capocchi commented.

“Additionally, ZOLEO will also appeal to caravaners, boaters, skiers and hikers visiting regional Australia as the device allows subscribers to call for help and to keep in touch with friends and family from anywhere.”

ZOLEO connects with phones and tablets to provide seamless global messaging that can work both in and out of mobile coverage zones. Users can message over satellite, cellular of wifi.

It also boasts SOS alerts which are monitored 24/7 and GPS location which can be shared with others.

Beam was down 2.13 per cent on the market with shares trading at 23 cents at 1:01 pm AEST.
