Australian Agricultural Company (AAC) has promoted Chief Operating Officer David Harris to CEO and Managing Director of the company, effective today.

He has been acting CEO since June 21 when previous CEO and MD Hugh Killen resigned.

Chairman Donald McGauchie said the board had been impressed with his performance as acting CEO and unanimously believed he was the best person to lead the company.

“David has demonstrated his understanding of the importance of optimising and making value chains more efficient and sustainable,” he said.

“He is experienced in the development and implementation of strategies and business plans focused on achieving improved profitability, efficiency and value creation in new products.”

Mr Harris has been with the company since 2016, reporting to the CEO and board with a focus on improving operational aspects across the business.

With extensive supply chain experience across various aspects of Australian agriculture, Mr Harris has developed a broad depth of knowledge in the operation of large-scale intensive animal production systems.

He has previously held executive positions with Stanbroke, Smithfield Cattle Co and running his private agricultural consultancy business and family farming operations in central west, New South Wales.

As part of his new role, Mr Harris will receive a fixed remuneration package which includes a $700,000 salary, including superannuation.

Shares in ACC held steady at $1.73 as of 12:32 pm AEST.
