Base Resources (BSE) has updated the mineral resource and maiden mineral resource for two deposits at its Kwale Operations in Kenya.

The company is currently undertaking a pre-feasibility study (PFS) for the Kwale North Dune and Bumamani deposits to assess their potential to extend the mine life of the Kwale Operations.

Since the Kwale North Dune deposit’s maiden resource was announced in May 2019, Base has carried out more drilling and studies to update the mineral resource and its understanding of the deposit.

The Kwale North Dune deposit’s mineral resource estimate has increased by 13 per cent and contained heavy mineral (HM) has increased by 12 per cent.

The mineral resource now sits at 194 million at an average HM grade of 1.5 per cent for 2.9 million tonnes of contained HM.

The Bumamani deposit is located 1.5 kilometres south of the North Dune deposit and was discovered in 2017 when Base conducted drilling to test mineralisation.

Bumamani’s maiden mineral resource estimate sits at 5.9 million tonnes at an average HM grade of 1.9 per cent for 0.115 million tonnes HM.

Base decided to defer the resource estimate until a full drilling program could be completed and all results included in the process. A total of 2977 metes of drilling, from 183 holes, have helped to shape the deposit’s maiden resource.

The PFS is expected to be completed early in the June quarter.

Base ended Friday’s session 1.67 per cent in the green with shares closing at 30.5 cents.
