Battery Age Minerals (BM8) has started preparing for its maiden exploration campaign at the Falcon Lake lithium project in Ontario, Canada.

The company announced on Thursday it had secured an office in Canada to help accelerate exploration efforts at the project, which lies in the tier-one mining jurisdiction of Thunder Bay.

Additionally, Battery Age has appointed experienced Australian exploration geologist Taylor Smith as its lead in-country Exploration Geologist.

Mr Smith has 10 years of experience in the industry, including playing his part in the exploration, resource development and mining start-up phase of Pilbara Minerals (PLS) Pilgangoora lithium-tantalum mine in Western Australia.

BM8 CEO Gerard O’Donovan said the company was “delighted” to secure an office in Canada, along with the appointment of Mr Smith.

“We are delighted to have now established offices in Thunder Bay and have Taylor join the team as Lead Exploration Geologist; this will allow us to work with all our key stakeholders in the region whilst maintaining a true local presence,” Mr O’Donovan said.

Mr Smith has had prior experience working in Alberta in Canada and has most recently worked with Caravel Minerals (CVV).

The company said Mr Smith would work with partner Coast Mountain Geological (CMG) as well as key stakeholders including First Nation communities in the local area. CMG has been exploring for lithium-bearing pegmatites in Thunder Bay and the surrounding regions area for the past 12-15 years.

“We are also delighted to partner with CMG as our in-country geological consultant. They have a long history exploring for lithium-bearing pegmatites in Ontario and will bring significant experience to the management group,” Mr O’Donovan said.

The company hopes to start its maiden drilling program at Falcon Lake in the first half of 2023.

Shares in BM8 ended the day down 8.46 per cent, trading at 59.5 cents.
