BPH Energy’s (BPH) investee company, Cortical Dynamics, has filed a new international patent application for measuring brain activity.
The new application is titled “Apparatus and process for measuring brain activity” and will ensure that any intellectual property will be protected during commercialisation.
Cortical’s current primary product is the Brain Anaesthesia Response Monitor (BARM), which has been developed to better detect the effect of anaesthesia on brain activity.
It improves on the currently used electroencephalogram (EEG) technologies by incorporating the latest advances in technology and understanding in the brain’s electrical activity.
An EEG is used to test and record brain activity and does so by attaching small metal discs to the patient’s head.
It can determine changes in brain activity, detect epilepsy, diagnose brain disorders, and sleep disorders.
It can also be used to determine the right level of anaesthesia for a patient in a medically induced coma.
According to Cortical, BARM is “fundamentally different” to all other current devices, as it’s able to detect a range of sedative and anaesthetic medications, such as ketamine and nitrous oxide.
Further, it can detect the effects of hypnotic and analgesic (pain-relieving) agents.
Cortical has already received 22 patents, spanning throughout Australia, New Zealand, Chain, Japan, Europe, and the United States.
Despite this news, BPH Energy is down 8.70 per cent on the market and shares are trading for 2.1 cents each at 2:16 pm AEST.
