Brisbane Broncos (ASX:BBL) shares up following AGM

Brisbane Broncos (BBL) shares are in the green today following its annual general meeting.

The rugby league team recorded a net profit after tax for the 2021 financial year (ending December 31) of $2.9 million, compared to a net loss after tax of $400,000 the year before.

Broncos recorded gross revenue of $51 million, a 46 per cent increase on 2020, with total expenditure for 2021 at $46.7 million.

Chair Karl Morris said the year was “another challenging one” for the team on and off the field, with “COVID-19 continuing to impact the rugby league as it did the entire country.”

Mr Morris said 2021 did not start the way Broncos would have liked on the field, however the NRL team finished the season in a more positive light after wining four of the final nine home games.

Over 2021, Broncos saw its home games average 21,444 attendees and total membership numbers increased to 28,533.

Mr Morris is looking forward to 2022, with several new players.

“It is encouraging to see the progress being made and the achievements to date in 2022,” he said.

The Broncos Board also thanked Paul White who has left his role as CEO after ten years last year, and welcomed new CEO Dave Donaghy.

“We welcome Dave to the Broncos and are excited about the future under his leadership and the experience he brings to the role,” Mr Morris added.

Brisbane Broncos shares were up 7.14 per cent on the market this afternoon, trading at $1.20 per share at 1:16 pm AEST.
