CFOAM (CFO) has begun research trials of carbon foam production at atmospheric pressure after commissioning of a continuous kiln late last year as part of its DOE project.

The company said its carbon products potentially offered a low-emission, fireproof, mould resistant, low-cost and sustainable material for use in building construction and producing them at atmospheric pressure would provide a significant capability upgrade.

The initial phase of the research trials involves the production of carbon foam panels.

CFOAM said progress had already been made on one of the DOE project’s major milestones, with the manufacture of a one-inch by 18-inch by 18-inch carbon foam panel at atmospheric pressure through the continuous kiln.

The company said the sample panel indicated carbon foam could be manufactured continuously at atmospheric pressure under the right conditions and reduce the manufacture of a carbon foam panel from days to hours.

It continued to refine the continuous production process and work on the consistent manufacture of CFOAM panels.

CFO shares were up 4.55 per cent to 1.2 cents at 2:28 pm AEDT.
