Comet Resources (CRL) has identified extensive surface copper mineralisation at the Barraba Copper Project.

The Barraba Project lies near the town of Barraba in NSW, 550 kilometres north of Sydney and spans an area of 2375 hectares.

A field program has now been completed over the Murchison Copper Mine and the Gulf Creek North prospects by Consultant Geologist and Project Manager Mart Rampe.

Work included geochemical soil sampling, rock chip sampling, and geological mapping.

Murchison Copper Mine

Fieldwork at the Murchison Copper Mine focused on outlining the tenor and extent of the mineralisation.

A number of samples have now been taken for laboratory analysis and results will be reported on in due course.

Historical data has shown that the Murchison Mine is a volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) style deposit, similar to that found at the Gulf Creek Copper Mine.

Previous work has indicated the presence of underground workings to a depth of 16 metres, as well as multiple shallow pits.

Copper was produced at an average grade of three per cent, with peak results of up to 5.1 per cent.

Gulf Creek North

Work at Gulf Creek North uncovered a number of historical workings that were previously unknown to Comet.

Additionally, these mine workings were close to a number of changeability anomalies that were identified by previous induced polarisation (IP) surveys and may indicate the presence of a broader sulphide system.

Samples have been collected and sent to the laboratory for analysis.

“We’re encouraged by the widespread visual presence of copper mineralisation around the Murchison Copper Mine as well as the discovery of historical workings and the presence of iron oxides in the area of the IP anomalies at Gulf Creek North,” Managing Director Matthew O’Kane said.

“We look forward to receiving the assay results and also will look to add in some drilling at Murchison to coincide with the initial drilling program at the Gulf Creek Copper Mine,” he added.

Comet is up 9.52 per cent on the market, with shares trading at 2.3 cents at 1:36 pm AEDT.
