Dotz Nano has used its BioDotz security markers to authenticate hemp leaves and inflorescence in a world-first in-plant track-and-trace pilot with Seàch Medical Group.
Dotz is an advanced technology company developing, manufacturing and commercialising tagging, tracing and verification solutions.
“In collaboration with Seàch, we have demonstrated a world-first in-plant tagging solution that provides a superior authentication measurement and complements current track-and-trace technologies for the legal cannabis market,” Dotz CEO Uzi Breier said.
Its unique products: ValiDotz, Fluorensic, and BioDotz, can be imbedded into plastics, fuels, lubricants, chemicals, and even hemp plants to create product specific codes and trace for origins.
BioDotz carbon-based markers are the first in-plant security solution for monitoring valuable plants such as hemp. Once BioDotz is imbedded into the plant, it cannot be removed.
Seàch Medical Group is a leading, licensed Israeli-based medicinal hemp producer.
In July 2019, Dotz and Seàch entered a partnership agreement. Under this agreement, the company’s non-toxic BioDotz markers were added to hemp plants at Seàch’s global growing facilities.
The addition of BioDotz to the plants created unique in-plant security identifiers that cannot be forged or removed.
However, the company found the BioDotz markers were detectable in the leaves and inflorescence, after a few days of being added to the plants. Dotz intends to continue in-field testing for multiple scenarios.
“This testing with Seàch is an important milestone towards Dotz commencing sales and marketing activity within the legal cannabis market,” Uzi said.
The companies recognise the global legal hemp market is rapidly growing with producers under increasing pressure to comply with stricter federal and state regulations.
Dotz’s end-to-end anti-counterfeiting solution provides product security throughout the hemp supply chain, enabling producers to comply with regulations while protecting their species.
“We believe this sector offers significant opportunities for Dotz, particularly as we have the only in-plant end-to-end security solution available,” Uzi continued.
Dotz has a patent application pending with the Patent of Bureau for the use of BioDotz as a direct taggant of hemp and other high-value or restricted plants.
