Eclipx (ECX) has appointed its Chief Financial Officer Damien Berrell to succeed Julian Russell as CEO, effective February 1, 2023.

Mr Berrell has over 20 years of experience in the domestic and international non-bank financial institutional space, spending most of his time in senior leadership roles in fleet leasing businesses.

Before ECX, he was the CFO of Custom Fleet, where he played a leading role in the sale of Custom Fleet by General Electric to Element Financial.

His role at Custom Fleet involved repositioning the business in Australia and New Zealand, which included the establishment of a securitisation funding program.

“Damien has been a driving force in the Group’s transformation, particularly in relation to our recent commercial and operational successes, which are evident in today’s FY22 results,” Chair Gail Pemberton said.

“As we move into the Accelerate program, Damien’s deep experience and skillset are critical to the successful implementation, along with the strong team we have in place.”

Ms Pemberton also paid tribute to Mr Russell’s leadership especially when the company faced significant financial and strategic uncertainty.

Further, she called the transition of leadership a “logical time” for succession now that the company has strong strategic foundations in place.

As part of Mr Berrell’s transition to CEO, James Owens has been appointed CFO following the same effective date.

Mr Russell is expected to depart from the company on September 30, 2023 as he will be retained to support Mr Berrell and ensure a well-managed transition.

Mr Berrell’s remuneration includes a $720,531 salary and superannuation package.

Shares in Eclipx ended the day 5.85 per cent in the red to close at $1.77 each.
