Encounter Resources (ASX: ENR) has this week kicked off reverse circulation (RC) drilling at the Elsa prospect within the Lamil copper-gold project in Western Australia’s Paterson Province, as it looks to delineate an interpreted Havieron-style breccia pipe and identify zones of increased gold-copper anomalism.

The 6,000 metre RC drilling is testing a large, 1.5 kilometre by one kilometre breccia target with semi-coincident magnetic, gravity and IP chargeability anomalies.

Historical drilling in the area intersected broad zones of anomalous mineralisation, including 33m at 0.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 0.1% copper.

The program includes 6,000m of government co-funded RC drilling to vector toward higher-grade copper-gold zones within the interpreted breccia pipe.

“Prior drilling at Elsa intersected an extensive breccia and alteration system containing zones of copper-gold anomalism. The breccia intersected at Elsa has a number of similarities with the breccia that hosts the Havieron gold-copper deposit located 80km to the east,” executive chairman Will Robinson said.

The initial drill program at Lamil forms part of an extensive exploration program planned in the Paterson Province in 2026 that will also include RC/diamond drilling at the Parbo, Tyrell and Haddon copper prospects at Yeneena.

“These programs will be completed in parallel with an even larger multi-rig drill program commencing next month at Aileron in the West Arunta targeting niobium/REE resource growth and new discoveries,” Mr Robinson said.

The Lamil project covers an area of 61 square kilometres and is located 25 kilometres northwest of the major copper-gold mine at Telfer.

The Paterson province also contains multiple large-scale copper-gold deposits, such as Greatland’s major Havieron deposit (seven million ounces of gold and 275,000 tonnes of copper), as well as Rio Tinto’s Winu deposit (7.9 million ounces of gold and 2.9 million tonnes of copper) and Antipa Mineral’s Minyari Dome (2.3 million ounces of gold and 84,000 tonnes of copper) deposit.

ENR is steady at 24.5¢. Mkt cap $136.9M.
