Firebird Metals (FRB) has begun its maiden drilling program at its flagship Oakover Manganese Project in Western Australia.

The Oakover Project lies 85 kilometres east of Newman in the Eastern Pilbara region of WA and consists of one granted exploration licence and two exploration licence applications.

All up, 289 holes, for 11,500 metres, will be drilled, consisting of 5000 metres of infill drilling and 6500 metres of expansion drilling.

The majority of the drilling will be undertaken across the Sixty Silver and Jay-Eye prospects with the remainder to be completed at the Karen Prospect.

Drilling will aim to improve and possibly grow the 64 million ton inferred mineral resource estimate.

Once drilling wraps up, all data will be incorporated into a pre-feasibility study which is expected to be completed in Q1 CY22.

Managing Director Peter Allen has described the drill program as an important milestone for Firebird.

“This is an important milestone and what we’ve been working towards since our listing just four months ago,” Mr Allen said.

“We have a significant body of work to complete, but it is worth noting that by utilising previously untested diamond core recently recovered from storage, we can advance both the drill program and metallurgical test work simultaneously.”

Firebird was steady on the market with shares trading at 50 cents at 2:05 pm AEST.
