First Au (FAU) has begun drilling at the Dogwood porphyry copper-molybdenum-gold project in Victoria.

Deepcore Drilling has been engaged to drill 14 diamond holes, for roughly 2000 metres, with the rig arriving on site last week and operations beginning over the weekend.

The aim of this drilling is to test for a ‘structurally modified’ mineralised system with holes designed to test the extent of the supergene, hypogene, structural and lithological hosts as well as assess the further potential of the project.

Historical drilling by Anglo Australian American Prospecting in the 1980s and CRA in 1993 and 1994 indicated the presence of a significant copper anomaly.

Previous results include 13.2 metres at 1.33 per cent copper, 30 metres at 0.5 per cent copper including eight metres at 1.2 per cent copper, and two metres at 8g/t gold.

The drilling by CRA also showed laterally extensive supergene chalcocite oxide copper mineralisation which remains open in all directions.

A hole was stopped in chalcocite mineralisation with coincident induced polarisation and geochemical anomalies remaining untested.

First Au will provide updates as drilling progresses and results are received.

Shares in First Au ended the day 14.3 per cent in the red at 1.2 cents.
