Champion Iron (ASX:CIA) has announced the outbreak of a forest fire will hamper activities on-site its Bloom Lake project in Canada.

Hamper could be an understatement, depending on how long the fires go on for. The company has shut down activities on-site wholemeal given the flames encroaching to the north of the permit area.

Champion said on Monday it was working with local fire brigades where possible to attempt to mitigate spread.

Only days ago, the nearby Labrador City community was evacuated; Champion said flames were only now a “few kilometres” from Bloom Lake on Monday morning.

Both the US and Canada have been exposed to extreme heats this summer season.

CIA last traded at $6.49/sh.
