Hamelin Gold (ASX: HMG) was up on the commencement of its maiden diamond drilling program at the Day Dawn gold project in the Paterson Province of Western Australia.

Drilling completed to date at Day Dawn has significantly advanced Hamelin Gold’s understanding of the mineral system, confirming the presence of a high-grade gold mineralisation extending from surface and highlighting the potential for a larger gold discovery at depth.

“We are very pleased to have commenced our maiden diamond drilling campaign at Day Dawn, which marks another important step in unlocking the broader potential of the project,” MD, Peter Bewick, said.

“Geological observations from the Phase 2 RC program support our view that the Aurora and Altus lodes may represent the upper position of a potentially significant, depth extensive mineral system, and this program is designed to build on that interpretation.

“With assay results from the expanded Phase 2 RC program due shortly and diamond drilling now underway, this is an exciting period for Hamelin at Day Dawn. We look forward to updating shareholders as the program progresses.”

The project will boost the state’s gas storage capacity by around 70%.

The project will produce gas before converting the offshore field into storage, helping meet peak winter demand forecasted by AEMO and keep pressure off prices.

Gas production can begin from 2028, with storage from 2029.

“We have been clear that gas has a role in Victoria’s energy transition, particularly for industries that rely on it,” Minister for Energy and Resources, Jaclyn Symes, said.
