Frontier Resources (FNT) is set to receive the results of an airborne magnetic-radiometric survey over two key Western Australian exploration licences before the end of the month.

The junior explorer this morning told investors its contractor partner was busy processing and reviewing the data from the survey, which took place in an area of Western Australia’s Gascoyne region considered to be prospective for rare earth elements (REEs).

Up until now, existing public data in the area came from an airborne survey flown at 500-metre line spacing back in the 1990s.

Frontier’s survey was flown with 50-metre line spacing at a low altitude switch a sensor height of 30 metres — meaning it will be a “significant improvement” on the existing public data for the exploration licences.

Frontier said the survey data is expected to highlight extra REE anomalies in the area to help the company design drilling and exploration programs set to begin in the next few months.

Non-executive director Brian Thomas said Frontier was “excited” to receive the final data review from the survey, in the next few weeks — particularly given the recent success of similar work taken on by fellow ASX-listed companies Hasting Technology Metals (HAS) and Dreadnought Resources (DRE) in the same region.

“The same geophysical survey method proved highly successful for our neighbouring tenement holder Dreadnought, who were able to identify multiple potential REE-bearing carbonatite intrusives as a result,” Mr Thomas said.

“Given our tenure shares the same geology as both Dreadnought and Hastings’ world-class Yangibana mine next door, I’m hopeful we will identify multiple targets as well.”

Frontier said despite the Gascoyne region’s prospectivity for REEs, “very limited” exploration has been taken on in the area. The company said it believed shallow alluvial cover across its Gascoyne Project has led to the area being overlooked.

However, with tech innovations leading to greater exploration capabilities and a renewed focus on REEs, Frontier said there was an exciting opportunity for the discovery of economic REE mineralisation at its project.

Looking ahead, the company said it planned to take on further heli-supported survey work and sampling programs across other zones in the project area as soon as possible, with follow-up exploration work to depend on these results and the results of the upcoming survey review.

Shares in Frontier Resources were up 4.17 per cent to trade at 2.5 cents each at 2:19 pm AEDT. The company has an $18.6 million market cap.
