FYI Resources has confirmed high-grade high purity alumina (HPA) from a recent combined diamond and reverse circulation (RC) drill at its Cadoux Kaolin Project in WA.

The drill consisted of 22 vertical RC drill holes for 614 metres and 4 angled diamond drill holes totalling 75 metres. This was designed to meet several key technical project objectives and contribute to the delivery of a feasibility study.

The drill program generated 441 samples which were sent to Interek Laboratories in Perth. They were tested for standard kaolin suite analysis and the results demonstrated the high quality of the Cadoux Kaolin and its potential.

High-purity alumina is a processed non-metallurgical alumina product characterised for its high purity. It is mainly used for corrosion and scratch resistance, high brightness and its ability to withstand extreme temperatures.

It is used as a base material in the manufacturing in LED lights, mobile phone and television screens, and specialised space, aeronautical and medical applications.

The market demand for HPA has had growth in the past few years and is expected to grow at an annual rate of 20.5 per cent. However, a major challenge in processing HPA is the rising costs of production, intensive labour and energy costs.

This drill provides FYI with an increased understanding of the project’s metallurgical model, ore characterisation for mining and waste disposal studies, increased technical understanding and reserve for the first phase of mining and increase in the predictability of future production schedules.
