Galena Mining (G1A) has begun ore commissioning at its 60-per-cent-owned Abra base metals project in the Gascoyne region of Western Australia.

With construction of the processing plant completed ahead of schedule, ore commissioning began yesterday.

Galena’s Managing Director, Tony James, congratulated the team at Abra for what he said was a “historic achievement”.

The ore commissioning work is being completed under the guidance of GR Engineering and completion, including performance testing, is expected by the end of January.

Moving forward, production of concentrate is expected to begin this month, after which time, the first shipment is expected in the first quarter of this calendar year.

“The mine now moves into the next phase of production ramp-up which will underpin the long-term performance and life of the Abra mine,” Mr James said.
