New Zealand electricity supplier Genesis Energy (GNE) has appointed Malcolm Johns as its Chief Executive Officer, effective from March next year.

Mr Jones has been CEO of Christchurch Airport since 2014 and has held several governance roles within New Zealand’s tourism and transport sectors.

Further, he is a founding signatory and member of the Climate Leaders Coalition Steering Group and Chair of the APEC Business Advisory Council Climate Leadership for Businesses Task Force.

He will replace Genesis’ outgoing CEO, Marc England, who is set to leave the company on October 14. Chief Customer Officer Tracey Hickman will lead the company in the interim.

Chairman Barbara Chapman said the board conducted an extensive global search to fill the position.

“Malcolm brings experience in leading large organisations through transformational change while delivering value for shareholders,” Ms Chapman said.

“He has shown considerable leadership in sustainability, is committed to action on climate change and has a proven track record in decarbonising organisations.”

Shares in Genesis Energy last traded at $2.69 on September 9.
