- However, Donald Trump’s team is refusing to concede, despite having no clear avenue to winning the election
- Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani has also spoken out about the recount, stating without evidence that the election was being stolen
A recount within the key U.S. battleground state of Georgia has reaffirmed Joe Biden as the winner with an over 12,000 vote lead.
Biden had originally been called the winner for Georgia, but as his winning margin was under 0.5 per cent an automatic recount was called as per state law.
All of the votes from the state have been recounted by hand and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the recount shows the original count was correct.
“Georgia’s historic first statewide audit reaffirmed that the state’s new secure paper ballot voting system accurately counted and reported results,” Brad said.
“This is a credit to the hard work of our county and local elections officials who moved quickly to undertake and complete such a momentous task in a short period of time,” he added.
The recount result reaffirms Biden’s position as the next U.S. President, taking his lead in the electoral college vote to 306 compared to Trump’s 232.
Georgia’s swing to Biden — the first time the state has voted Democrat since 1996 — also puts another nail in the coffin of Donald Trump’s reelection chances: the winner of the U.S. Presidential race needs over 270 electoral college votes to win.
Despite having no clear avenue to legitimately claiming the Presidency, Trump is still refusing to concede that he lost the 2020 election.
Instead, his team is continuing to claim without evidence that the election was stolen from him via fraudulent votes.
Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani is the latest from within Trump’s camp to falsely claim the Democrats rigged the recent poll.
In a press conference, where brown hair dye was seen dripping down his face, Giuliani falsely stated Republicans were barred from watching votes be counted.
“What happened on the morning of November 3? Did every Democrat leader in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Georgia, Nevada and Arizona, did they all wake up separately and have the same idea?” he began.
“That we are going to put Republican inspectors in pens and corrals, we’re not going to let them look at mail-in or absentee ballots? I think the logical conclusion is this was a common plan, a common scheme, that comes right from the Democratic Party and candidate,” he added.
“That’s the reason why he probably didn’t have to go out and campaign — he had to have known that they were going to do this,” Rudy added about Joe Biden.
Trump is yet to comment directly on the Georgia recount or concede the election.
