Hazer Group (HZR) has completed the construction and commissioning of the Hazer Commercial Demonstration project (CDP) in Western Australia.

The project will aim to produce hydrogen and graphite by the end of 2022 through the treatment of wastewater from the Woodman Point Water Recovering Facility.

The CDP will form the first fully-integrated demonstration of this technology.

The company will undertake the first phase of testing to optimise systems and de-risk the move towards the second phase and full operation of the project.

A hot-wall Hazer reactor will be installed in the fourth quarter, which will enable HZR to commence the second phase and begin producing hydrogen and graphite.

Following this phase, the company plans to utilise engineering data in order to lift production for commercial operations.

CEO Geoff Ward said the project was a first-of-kind.

“I look forward to completing the testing program and continuing to demonstrate the capacity of the Hazer technology to play a significant role at a large scale in achieving our critical global decarbonisation goals,” he said.

Shares were trading 14.8 per cent higher at 62 cents each at 11:28 am AEST.
