Spanish potash developer Highfield Resources (HFR) has announced further positive results from drilling at the Sierra del Perdón and Vipasca prospects.
Vipasca
Vipasca is located adjacent to the Muga Project, covers approximately 27 square kilometres and is highly prospective for economic potash mineralisation.
The ongoing drill program at Vipasca is focused on the deeper, higher grade, P1 and P2 potash horizons.
Drill hole V18-03 was designed to test continuity to the west of V18-02, which lies 600 metres to the East, where significant grades were intersected in the upper, intermediate and the lower potash intervals.
V18-03 intersected a total of 30.2 metres of potash mineralisation, including; 1.5 metres at an average grade of 11.98 per cent potassium oxide from 1022 metres; 1.8 metres at an average grade of 11.29 per cent potassium oxide from 1060 metres; and 1.5 metres at an average grade of 12.79 per cent potassium oxide from 1070 metres.
“The positive results specifically at V18-03 further reinforce the importance of Vipasca to the Muga Project. Importantly, these results provide Highfield with an increased dataset to evaluate and develop a single resource across Vipasca and Muga,” Chairman and interim CEO Richard Crookes said.
Drill hole V18-05 was completed to provide greater confidence that the potash resources extend from Muga to the west, and to understand the continuity of the individual potash intervals within the Vipasca permit.
Results of this drill-hole were not at the grades expected due to the potash layers not being well developed.
Specifically, the Upper Potash Interval yielded 0.9 metres with an average grade of 6.65 per cent potassium oxide, and the Middle Potash Interval yielded 1.3 metres with at an average grade of 5.79 per cent potassium oxide, including 0.6 metres with an average grade of 9.31 per cent potassium oxide. However, the company could only identify traces of potash in the Lower Potash Interval.
Due to these anomalous results, Highfield is conducting a complementary study to obtain a better understanding of the area.
Sierra del Perdón
Sierra del Perdón is located southeast of Pamplona and covers an area of approximately 120 square kilometres. The tenement previously hosted two potash mines, which operated from the 1960s until the late 1990s. During this time, it produced nearly 500,000 tonnes of K60 Muriate of Potash per annum.
The AA-01 drill hole at the Ampliación de Adiós Investigation Permit has been carried out in the tenement. The hole was designed to test the continuity of the shallow potash mineralisation towards the south of the former Potasas de Subiza potash operation.
AA-01 intersected a total of 9 metres of potash mineralisation including; 1.2 metres at an average grade of 9.05 per cent potassium oxide from 390.8 metres; and 1.5 metres at an average grade of 14.50 per cent potassium oxide from 394.1 metres.
To better understand the potash sequence, Highfield plans to drill a second hole which is scheduled in the second half of 2020.
Highfield Resources is up 4.11 per cent and shares are trading for 38 cents each at 1:06 pm AEST.
